Another highlight of Season 4 is the exquisite attention to detail when it comes to crafting their seemingly tight-knit group. Placing Kyra (Olivia Cooke) and Shirley (Harriet Walter) at odds only to later throw them together as a potentially deadly team is a brilliant move on the show’s part. With a farewell to another character along the way and a nail-biting cliffhanger at the end, Season 4 of “Slow Horses” is another exceptional display of tension, humor, and a family-like bond that simply can’t be broken. So, even if River is somewhat misguided, this season doesn’t lose its way.

It all started here with the first season of “Slow Horses.” The introduction of River, Shirley, and the mysterious and sharp Min Harper (Rosamund Pike) is a fantastic set-up for the chaos that will eventually unfold. Each character has their respective issues and their own reasons for winding up in Slough House, but it’s the dynamic between them and Lamb’s uncanny ability to bring out the best (or worst) in them that truly sets the tone for the series as a whole.
Season 1 keeps it relatively simple, focusing on a stolen briefcase packed with intelligence secrets which spins the group into action, revealing hidden talents and a knack for creating even bigger problems in their wake. We see the team start to gel together, uncover each other’s secrets, and even manage to walk away in one piece by the end. With a debut season as solid as this, it’s hard not to be hooked on “Slow Horses” right from the start. The seeds are planted for the mayhem to come, and Lamb’s little family is ready for whatever is thrown their way.

With “Slow Horses” second season, things only get crazier as unexpected plot twists and betrayals start to become the norm. Lou’s secret past is dug up by a malicious reporter, River makes everything harder than it needs to be, and Marcus finally starts to come into his own as a spy worth his salt. The addition of Lisa Dillon as Diana Taverner, the head of MI5, brings another layer of complexity to an already complex and layered group of characters.
Perhaps the weakest chapter in this season is when the team starts to turn on one another, indicating that big trouble is brewing. With risks higher and emotions running wild, Season 2 of “Slow Horses” is a rollercoaster of thrilling spy missions, deadly confrontations, and the irreplaceable bond that keeps this group together. It’s a bumpy ride for sure, but these bumbling agents have a way of coming out on top, no matter what gets thrown their way. Just be prepared to hang on tight for this wild season.
