Kristen Kish Critiques Food on ‘The Traitors’ Set: Top Chef Shares Insights
Kristen Kish, renowned for her culinary skills, faced a new challenge when she joined the cast of The Traitors this season. In an Instagram post on January 20, the Top Chef winner and current host shared some behind-the-scenes insights about the show’s kitchen setup, becoming the first contestant from the ‘Top Chef’ universe to comment on the food situation from a professional perspective.
According to Kish, the castle kitchen where they cooked had limited offerings, with only a toaster as the heat source. Despite the constraints, she tried to work with what she had, even attempting to toast a marshmallow over the toaster at one point. However, things didn’t always go as planned, like when she almost set a grilled cheese on fire while using the toaster to cook it.
Throughout filming, snack options remained limited, with glass jars rarely being refilled with different items. Kish found herself relying on dates for a boost before missions and snacking on Haribo gummies. One major frustration she noted was the consistently cold butter, making it difficult to spread on toast.
Kish’s experience prompted her to offer culinary advice for future seasons of The Traitors, suggesting small changes that could improve meals for contestants. Her fellow contestant Stephen Colletti also advocated for better food options, highlighting the need for more aromatics in their lunches.
Despite the show’s elaborate setting and intense gameplay, Kish’s candid revelations offer a glimpse into the daily struggles of preparing meals with limited resources. It goes to show that even a talented chef like Kristen Kish can have challenges when armed with nothing but a toaster.
