Portland Comedian Featured on Netflix’s ‘Star Search’ Reboot

Millennials, brace yourselves! The classic TV competition “Star Search” from the ’80s and ’90s is making a comeback, this time on Netflix with real-time voting. Whether you find this exciting, terrifying, or simply uninteresting, there’s one thing you shouldn’t miss: Portland comedian Susan Rice’s appearance on the show.

Rice began her comedy journey in Portland back in 1983 and has been gracing the stage with her humor ever since, navigating the highs and lows of the comedy scene. Her talent was recognized when she was named Portland’s Funniest Person by Willamette Week in 2015, over 30 years into her career. Fast forward to 2024, and she made an appearance on “America’s Got Talent” after over 40 years in the industry.

During her time on “Star Search,” Rice delivered a stellar set filled with jokes about her daily life, from her eggs to her elderly parents, and even her nieces’ attempts at setting her up. Despite her strong performance, she faced tough competition from JR De Guzman from San Diego, who charmed the judges and audience with his comedic song.

Unfortunately, the voting didn’t go in Rice’s favor, leaving some questioning if age played a factor. However, all hope is not lost! Rice is currently on tour, and if you’re a fan, you can catch her live in Forest Grove later this month. So, if you’re looking for a good laugh and to support a local talent, be sure to check out Susan Rice’s upcoming shows.
