Netflix Adds Streaming Rights for Legend of Zelda Movie in Expanded Sony Deal

Netflix has some exciting news for movie fans! They’ve just struck a deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment that includes streaming rights to some highly anticipated projects, like the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. This agreement expands on Netflix’s existing exclusive rights to Sony films in the US, making it the go-to platform for streaming Sony movies worldwide.

In the world of movie releases, the first window of availability after a film hits theaters and VOD services is known as “Pay-1.” Under this new deal, Netflix will be the first to stream Sony’s films in this coveted time frame. Plus, Netflix is also dipping into Sony’s back catalog of films and TV shows to keep their library fresh and exciting.

While the full roll-out of Sony content on Netflix won’t happen until 2029, fans can expect to see new releases gradually becoming available throughout the year. This multi-year agreement promises to keep the partnership between Netflix and Sony strong for the foreseeable future.

Netflix and Sony have already had success with past collaborations, bringing popular films like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Uncharted to the streaming platform. The companies’ partnership has been profitable and promising, leading Netflix to pay Sony over $7 billion for this latest deal.

In addition to Sony, Netflix also has a similar deal with Universal, which has brought Nintendo adaptations like The Super Mario Bros Movie to the streaming service. And on the horizon, Netflix has its eyes set on an even bigger acquisition: buying Warner Bros. for a whopping $82.7 billion. Paramount, however, is not taking this move lightly and is taking legal action against Warner Bros. Discovery for overlooking their competing bid.

Stay tuned for more exciting streaming updates as Netflix continues to expand its library with the best entertainment offerings!
