Netflix Acquires 292-Acre Fort Monmouth Property in Celebration

Netflix is making some big moves over on the East Coast with their latest project—an impressive $1 billion investment in a new production studio. The streaming giant recently closed a $55 million land deal to acquire the 292-acre Fort Monmouth Mega Parcel for this purpose, marking a significant step in their expansion plans.

The new studio will feature cutting-edge facilities, including 12 state-of-the-art soundstages covering nearly 500,000 square feet, along with spaces dedicated to film production and community amenities. The official closing ceremony took place on December 5, 2025, with demolition already underway on the site.

Governor Phil Murphy commended the project, noting it as one of the most complex he’s been involved in due to the challenging task of redeveloping a former military base on such a large scale. The project required approvals on various fronts, including zoning, environmental impact, tax agreements, traffic, noise, and intricate site-specific challenges.

Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos expressed his gratitude to New Jersey and all involved stakeholders for their support in making the studio a reality. He highlighted the studio’s potential to create thousands of jobs for local residents, generate billions of dollars in economic output, and contribute culturally to the region and state.

The establishment of this studio aligns with Netflix’s ongoing commitment to invest in American innovation and the creative community. The company has already contributed significantly to the US economy, creating job opportunities and supporting local production across the nation.

In 2022, Netflix unveiled its ambitious plan to revamp Fort Monmouth, a site that had been vacant for several years. The decision was influenced by New Jersey’s skilled workforce, thriving creative sector, and ideal filming locations.

As construction progresses and demolition continues at Fort Monmouth, work is expected to carry on until early 2026. The project involves removing 100 former Army buildings while preserving eight historic structures for use within the studio campus.

With New Jersey becoming a hub for film and television production, thanks in part to industry incentives like the state’s Film and Digital Media Tax Credit Program, Netflix’s new studio marks a significant addition to the region’s entertainment landscape. The stage is set for a new chapter in East Coast filmmaking, with Netflix leading the way in innovation and creative storytelling.
