Viewers Shocked by Matthew’s Unprecedented ‘Deal with the Devil’ Tactic
Do you love a good reality show twist? Well, Friday’s episode of The Traitors had viewers buzzing with excitement as contestant Matthew pulled off a jaw-dropping move in a bid for glory.
Matthew, a 35-year-old creative director from Northern Ireland, shocked everyone when he approached Traitors Stephen and Rachel with a risky proposal. He asked them to choose to murder fellow contestant Jessie and recruit him to their side instead.
Speaking to Rachel and Stephen through a wall, with their identities concealed, Matthew said, “I’m taking a massive risk here. I want to know that there is some trust. I suspect [host Claudia Winkleman] will offer you the opportunity to seduce the next time you meet. I want you to turn that down and I want you to murder Jessie.” He then asked, “And then the next time you seduce, you can seduce me. So my question is, do we have a deal?”
Viewers were left in shock by Matthew’s bold move, especially since he had not received much screen time prior to this episode. Some viewers found his sudden rise to prominence amusing, with one person joking on social media, “He felt the ‘which ones Matthew again’ vibe brewing and had to act FAST.”
But was this a clever tactic from Matthew, or is there more to this story? Before the series, he stated that there is no “morality” in the game and that he would do whatever it takes to win. “It’s a game, so there’s no limit,” he explained. “I can’t express this enough because I am quite moral and I want to do the right thing, but this is a game, and so the moral dilemma that I see people face, I don’t quite get because there’s no morality in this at all. We all know that we’re entering a game.”
Whether you love him or hate him, Matthew’s move has definitely stirred up some drama on The Traitors. Want to see how it all plays out? Tune in to BBC One next Wednesday at 8pm for the next episode.
