Walking Dead Star’s New Thriller Series Lands on Paramount+

It’s incredible to think it’s been over three years since AMC’s popular show, The Walking Dead, came to an end after its 11-season run. This series was a huge part of pop culture and helped make some of its actors household names. While some stars stayed within The Walking Dead universe, like in Dead City and Daryl Dixon, others ventured into new projects. One such star from The Walking Dead has just debuted in their own thrilling series on Paramount+.

Andrew Lincoln, known for his role as Rick Grimes, has returned to the screen in the lead role in Coldwater. The show first aired in the UK last September and then premiered on Paramount+ in the US on January 9th. In this psychological thriller, Lincoln plays a middle-aged man who relocates his family to a small Scottish town. There, he befriends his peculiar neighbor Tommy. However, as some unsettling events begin to unfold, he starts to question Tommy’s true nature. The show consists of six episodes and can only be accessed by Paramount+ subscribers on the Premium plan, releasing new episodes every Friday until the final episode on February 13th.

Stepping into his first major role since The Walking Dead, Andrew Lincoln’s performance in Coldwater has garnered a respectable Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes with a 67% critic rating. Despite some criticisms about the show feeling rushed, it’s still a captivating series that blends dark humor, intense suspense, and offers a unique take on toxic masculinity.

The show has received high praises from critics. For instance, Tilly Pearce from Radio Times gave Coldwater a score of 4 out of 5, describing it as a gripping thriller that will keep viewers hooked from start to finish. Another critic from The Times, Carol Midgely, labeled the series as “the maddest, most original thing I’ve seen in ages,” praising its psychological depth and unique narrative style. Critics admired Lincoln’s performance, especially his character’s chemistry with Tommy, portrayed by Ewen Bremner. Their contrasting personalities provide an interesting dynamic that makes them both stand out. Together, they create a series that is both captivating and, at times, peculiar.

As for the future of Coldwater, the show’s fate remains uncertain. ITV has yet to announce if there will be a Season 2. However, series creator and writer David Ireland has expressed interest in continuing the story, hinting at the possibility of more seasons ahead.
