“Review: Netflix His & Hers – Frustrating Show of the Year”

Netflix’s new series, His & Hers, has quickly become one of the most frustrating shows of the year, despite having talented lead actors like Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal. Based on Alice Feeney’s novel of the same name, this whodunit mystery falls short of expectations, spanning six episodes of approximately 45 minutes each.

Developed by William Oldroyd (Lady Macbeth) and showrun by ER’s Dee Johnson, His & Hers struggles to find its footing and maintain a cohesive narrative. Drawing inspiration from popular HBO hits like Sharp Objects and Mare Of Easttown, the series aims to be a slow-burning murder mystery set in a small town in Dahlonega, Georgia. However, the lack of atmosphere and depth in the storytelling makes the characters and plot feel generic and disconnected from reality.

One of the major issues with the show is that the main characters, Anna and Jack, don’t feel like real people. Their actions and behaviors seem out of place and lack the depth needed to make them relatable or compelling. Despite attempting to touch on important social issues like bullying, sexual assault, and peer pressure, the series falls short in its execution, failing to provide meaningful commentary on these topics.

As the story unfolds, viewers are introduced to a web of secrets, affairs, and hidden identities, but these elements fail to elevate the overall narrative. The series prioritizes shock value over character development, leaving audiences unsatisfied by the lack of depth in the storytelling.

While Thompson delivers a strong performance as Anna, her efforts are overshadowed by the show’s inconsistent writing and frustrating climax. His & Hers may have potential, but it ultimately falls short of delivering a satisfying viewing experience.

His & Hers is now streaming on Netflix, and despite its flaws, it may still appeal to fans of mystery thrillers.
