The Simpsons retires Duffman superhero mascot after nearly 30 years
The beloved Duff Beer mascot, Duffman, has officially retired after nearly 30 years on The Simpsons. In the recent episode “Separation,” a parody of Apple TV+’s Severance, Duffman bids farewell with his classic catchphrase “Oh yeah!” Voiced by Hank Azaria, Duffman is known for his superhero persona complete with a red cape and utility belt filled with Duff beer cans. This iconic character first appeared in 1997 and has made regular appearances until season 37.
In his final storyline, Duffman attempts to recruit Homer into a mysterious corporation called EOD before ultimately deciding to deprogram himself and retire the persona for good. This departure follows the recent tragic end of another long-running character from the show, Alice Glick, the First Church organist.
These changes come amidst ongoing fan discussions about the show’s future and its treatment of minor characters. The series has faced criticism for recent character deaths and concerns about the aging voices of the main cast. However, The Simpsons continues to evolve, recently introducing and reintroducing iconic faces like Jacques, voiced by Albert Brooks.
As The Simpsons nears its 40th year on air, fans can expect more surprises and changes to keep the iconic show fresh and engaging. Stay tuned for more updates from Springfield as the series continues to entertain audiences around the world.
