“Stranger Things Finale Earns $25 Million at Box Office”
Netflix’s hit show “Stranger Things” has taken the box office by storm with its thrilling finale, raking in an estimated $20 to $25 million, reports confirm. The supernatural series, created by Matt and Ross Duffer, made its debut on New Year’s Eve in over 600 theaters, in addition to being available for streaming. To comply with the cast’s contract requirements, tickets were free, and viewers had to reserve seats by purchasing mandatory food and drink vouchers. AMC and Cinemark Theatres priced these vouchers at $20, while Regal Cinemas offered them for $11 as a clever nod to the character Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown.
AMC Theatres, the largest theater chain globally, screened the finale in 231 U.S. locations, making up a significant portion of the total theaters showing the finale over the holiday period. More than 753,000 fans flocked to AMC cinemas over two days, contributing over $15 million in revenue. The anticipation for the theatrical event was palpable, as AMC’s CEO, Adam Aron, excitedly shared the news on social media, highlighting the overwhelmingly positive response from audiences.
This unexpected success provided a much-needed boost to the struggling domestic box office, which had been grappling with the lasting effects of the pandemic crisis. Despite the challenges faced by the industry throughout 2025, the final numbers are predicted to show only a slight improvement from the previous year, still significantly lower than pre-pandemic levels. According to industry experts, total revenue for the year in the U.S. and Canada is estimated at $8.87 billion, underscoring the enduring impact of the pandemic on moviegoing habits. With most viewers opting to stay home, ticket sales have been sluggish compared to previous years, painting a challenging picture for the industry at large.
