Apple declares Intel MacBook Air and Apple Watch Series 5 as ‘Vintage’
It’s that time again! Apple recently added the last Intel MacBook Air and the Apple Watch Series 5 to its vintage products list. Essentially, when 5-7 years have passed since Apple discontinued a product, it becomes ‘vintage.’
Both the Apple Watch Series 5 from 2019 and the last Intel MacBook Air from 2020 were significant releases. The Edition models of the Apple Watch Series 5 introduced titanium and ceramic casings. Interestingly, the Edition models were the last to showcase a ceramic casing at a higher price point. The subsequent Series 6 and Series 7 models only featured titanium casing before the Edition line was discontinued.
The last Intel MacBook Air was swiftly replaced by the M1 MacBook Air, one of Apple’s first Macs with Apple Silicon. Notably, the last Intel MacBook Air is one of the last Intel-based Macs with the T2 security chip that does not support macOS Tahoe.
Here are the products that Apple added to its vintage list this week:
– MacBook Air (Retina, 13-inch, 2020)
– iPhone 8 Plus (128GB)
– iPhone 11 Pro
– iPad Air 3 (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
– Apple Watch Series 5 (all models/sizes)
If you own one of these vintage products, you may still be eligible for repairs, depending on the availability of repair parts.
