‘Stranger Things 5 Finale Generates 1.1 Million RSVPs at Movie Theaters’

The “Stranger Things” series finale is generating a lot of buzz as a major theatrical event. Ross Duffer, one of the show’s co-creators, shared on Instagram that a whopping 1.1 million people have RSVP’d to watch the final episode in theaters on New Year’s Eve. Excitingly, more than 3,500 showtimes across over 620 theaters are completely sold out.

Ross Duffer also hinted that he and his brother Matt Duffer, the other co-creator, might make an appearance at a screening or two. He shared, “What a way to close out a ten-year journey—together. Maybe we’ll see some of you in LA.”

Volume 1 of Season 5 was released with four episodes on Thanksgiving Day, followed by Volume 2 with three more episodes on Christmas Day. Along with the theatrical release, the series finale will be available for streaming on Netflix on Dec. 31.

“Stranger Things” has been a significant success for Netflix, crossing 1.2 billion views and contributing over $1.4 billion to the U.S. GDP, as reported by Variety. Season 4, released in 2023, remains Netflix’s second most popular English-language TV title. With Season 5 achieving Netflix’s biggest opening week ever for an English-language TV series, it is anticipated to make its mark in Netflix history as well.
