Duffer Brothers Confirm Netflix’s ‘The Talisman’ Adaptation Cancellation

Stephen King fans looking forward to “The Talisman” adaptation on Netflix will be disappointed to hear that the project is no longer happening. The Duffer Brothers, the creators of “Stranger Things,” confirmed in a recent interview that the adaptation is no longer moving forward. This news comes despite the long history of development for this project, with plans dating back to the ’80s when Steven Spielberg acquired the rights to the novel.

Originally published in 1984 and co-written by Stephen King and Peter Straub, “The Talisman” is a fantasy epic that has yet to be adapted for film or television. The story follows the journey of twelve-year-old Jack Sawyer in search of a mystical talisman that can save his dying mother. Jack navigates through both the real world and a parallel universe known as the Territories, encountering challenges and revelations along the way.

While the Duffer Brothers were set to work on this adaptation with Spielberg and Netflix, they have since signed a deal with Paramount and will be leaving the streaming platform in April 2026. Despite this setback, fans can still look forward to the finale of “Stranger Things” on New Year’s Eve and a new supernatural series called “The Boroughs” next year.
