Netflix and Paramount enlist Trump allies for WBD acquisition regulatory challenges
hareholders, would appear to have more of an inside track with Trump through his father, Oracle founder Larry Ellison, who is a huge Trump supporter.
The younger Ellison was instrumental in pushing through Paramount-owned CBS News’ settlement with Trump over an election interference lawsuit, and Paramount seems to have former DOJ antitrust boss Makan Delrahim on their side to navigate regulatory issues with ease.
Netflix, on the other hand, has assembled a team of Trump-friendly associates, including Kellyanne Conway and former Trump White House aides. They are also working with longtime GOP power broker Brian Ballard as they prepare for the regulatory approval process.
Warner Bros. Discovery has prominent GOP officials advising their board of directors and CEO David Zaslav, who seems to be leaning towards siding with Netflix in this acquisition deal.
Undoubtedly, Netflix has an advantage on paper, with a significantly larger profit and market cap compared to Paramount. They have never reported a fiscal loss, while Paramount is operating at a loss and a lower market cap.
As the bidding war continues, it seems that Netflix is leading the race to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, with Paramount trailing behind. It remains to be seen how these alliances and allegiances will play out in the final acquisition deal.
