DC’s Most Controversial Film Available on Prime Video for Streaming

Divisive opinions abound about Joker: Folie á Deux, the newly released DC movie now available for streaming on Prime Video. The highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 hit, Joker, is directed by Todd Phillips.

After its release, several folks declared Joker: Folie à Deux a miss at $207.5 million worldwide, considering the cost of $190-200 million. Critics weren’t kind either, giving it just a 31% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But the movie has its champions, with Quentin Tarantino and Francis Ford Coppola numbering among them.

The stellar cast includes Joaquin Phoenix, reprising his role as Arthur Fleck/The Joker from the original movie. And alongside Phoenix, stars like Lady Gaga, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beetz, Steve Coogan, Harry Lawtey, and Leigh Gill light up the screen.

In case you’re wondering, the first Joker movie was a mega blockbuster for Warner Bros. Pictures, grossing about $1.079 billion globally with a budget of around $55 million. Remember all those Academy Awards nominations? Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor, and Hildur Guðnadóttir won for Best Original Score.

Originally designed as a standalone film, Phillips confirmed in June 2022 that a sequel was a go. Just FYI, Joker: Folie á Deux isn’t part of the same storyline as the upcoming DC Universe from James Gunn and Peter Safran. And that series kicks off officially this December with an animated Creature Commandos edition.

The film’s screenplay was penned by Phillips and Scott Silver, who also crafted the first flick. So, if you enjoyed Joker, give the sequel a whirl and see for yourself!
