Instagram TV App Arriving on Amazon Fire Streaming Device

Instagram users now have a new way to enjoy Reels short-form videos on a bigger screen—thanks to the new Instagram TV app coming to Amazon Fire TV streaming devices. Meta, the company behind Instagram, announced that they will be testing this new app in the U.S., signaling Instagram’s ambition to become a major video platform beyond smartphones and take on the likes of TikTok and YouTube.

The Instagram for TV app will showcase Reels videos, which are similar to TikTok videos and are created by individual users. Tessa Lyons, Instagram’s vice president of product, shared with CNBC that Meta plans to eventually expand this TV app to other devices as well. While she didn’t mention specific device makers, the focus right now is on providing users with a great viewing experience rather than solely focusing on advertising revenue on TV.

Unlike traditional TV content, the Reels displayed on the Instagram TV app will still be vertical videos, designed for mobile viewing. The app will feature short-form videos that are three minutes or less, staying true to Instagram’s roots. In the future, there may be an option to include slightly longer content, but for now, the emphasis is on short, engaging videos.

Users can expect to see Reels organized into channels based on interests such as sports, music, travel, and more. Additionally, users can link up to five different Instagram accounts to a single TV-specific account. However, to ensure a family-friendly experience, the app will apply content standards suitable for a broad audience, which means certain types of content, like drugs, alcohol, and explicit material, won’t be recommended to younger viewers.

So, get ready to enjoy your favorite Reels content on the big screen with the new Instagram TV app, as Instagram continues to evolve and offer new ways for users to engage with their platform.
