Filmmaker Andy Muschietti Confirms Desire for Massive Supercut of Both Films
Welcome to Derry fans! The talented filmmaker behind It, Andy Muschietti, has shared that he still has big dreams of creating a supercut of both It movies – adding up to a whopping six and a half hours of content. In a recent Q&A session on reddit for his new show It: Welcome to Derry, he confirmed that this extended cut is still something he’s hoping to bring to life, saying, “Yes, still a big dream of mine. Since we’ve been involved heavily in this show, we haven’t had time to execute it. Crossing fingers.”
After the release of It: Chapter Two in 2019, Muschietti expressed his desire to include new footage, deleted scenes, and even scenes that didn’t make it past the writing stage in this supercut. One particular scene that fans were excited about involved a celestial turtle named Maturin in Bill’s basement. This mystical turtle, a key figure in many of King’s stories, represents wisdom and stands in opposition to evil forces like Pennywise. Although this underwater scene was cut due to pacing issues, it’s clear that Muschietti has a lot of exciting material up his sleeve.
Busy with other projects, including developing It: Welcome to Derry with his wife Barbara Muschietti and showrunner Jason Fuchs, Andy has been unable to dive into this massive supercut just yet. The series premiered on HBO Max to positive reviews and wrapped up its first season in December.
Fans will be thrilled to know that Muschietti is committed to two more seasons of Welcome to Derry, with the show set to make significant time jumps in its upcoming episodes. Season 2 will transport viewers back to 1935, while Season 3 will venture even further back to 1908.
For those eager to dive into the world of It, both of Muschietti’s films are available to stream on HBO Max. It’s an exciting time for fans of the supernatural and the creepy, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more updates!
