Cowboys vs Lions Draws Strong Sports Audience on Prime Video for Thursday Night Football
Prime Video broke records with the most-watched “Thursday Night Football” game, drawing in a whopping 19.4 million viewers for the Cowboys-Lions matchup. This beat out the previous record set earlier in the season with the Commanders-Packers game. The service’s highest sports audience to date remains at 22.1 million for last season’s NFL Wild Card game between the Steelers and Ravens.
The Emirates NBA Cup also saw impressive numbers during its group play stage, averaging 1.5 million viewers across ESPN, NBC, Peacock, and Prime Video. Thanksgiving week was particularly successful for all partners involved. NBC had its best group play audience with 2.7 million viewers for regional coverage, while ESPN hit 2.1 million viewers for an NBA Cup tripleheader on Thanksgiving Eve. Prime Video maintained momentum with two Black Friday NBA Cup games averaging 2.1 million viewers each.
NBC’s regionalized NBA action featuring the Knicks-Celtics and Thunder-Warriors drew in 3.2 million viewers, marking the NBA’s best pre-Christmas Tuesday audience since 1996.
Meanwhile, ESPN celebrated its best college volleyball season on record, boosted by a record number of matches on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2. With a total of 44 matches, viewership across these channels averaged 190,000, showing a 36% increase from the previous season. Notably, the Nebraska-Kentucky match on Labor Day weekend, with a rare broadcast TV slot, brought in an impressive 1.2 million viewers. Additionally, ESPN saw its best regular-season wrestling audience with the Iowa State-Iowa dual drawing in 350,000 viewers, a 44% improvement from the previous record for a Cy-Hawk dual.
