Cowboys-Lions: Most-Watched Thursday Night Football Game on Prime Video Era
Last Thursday’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions pulled in a massive audience of 19.39 million viewers on Prime Video, setting a new record for Thursday Night Football. This viewership number blew past the previous record of 17.76 million viewers for a game earlier this year between the Washington Commanders and Green Bay Packers. Plus, the Lions’ victory saw a 12% increase from last year’s game, which had 17.29 million viewers.
For the entire season, Prime Video is averaging 15.20 million viewers for Thursday Night Football, showcasing a 15% increase from last year. This growth trend has been consistent since Prime Video took over the Thursday night package in 2022. The numbers are based on Nielsen’s new Big Data + Panel measurements, which now include out-of-home viewing stats.
It’s no surprise that Prime Video is seeing such high viewership numbers, especially with the increasing popularity of streaming NFL games. The technology has become so widespread that fans are becoming more comfortable watching their favorite teams on platforms like Prime Video.
Just the week before, Prime Video set another record during their Black Friday game, drawing in an average of 16.33 million viewers for a Chicago Bears vs. Philadelphia Eagles matchup. It’s clear that Prime Video is becoming a go-to destination for football fans, with consistently high viewership numbers for their NFL broadcasts.
