Samba Schutte, known for his role as Koumba Diabate in “Our Flag Means Death,” recently shared his thoughts on his character in the post-apocalyptic world of Pluribus. In a recent Zoom interview with UPI, Schutte expressed his admiration for Koumba, describing him as “rational” despite his initial appearance as a hedonist.

Koumba’s character in the Apple TV+ sci-fi series, which explores a world where a virus connects people’s consciousness and brings about universal happiness, stands out for his immunity to the virus. Alongside Rhea Seehorn’s character, Carol, Koumba navigates a new reality where individuality is lost, and basic needs like food become a moral dilemma.

Schutte’s audition for the show, at first untitled, left him intrigued by the unique and refreshing premise once he learned more about it. Working closely with creator Vince Gilligan, Schutte’s Mauritanian heritage influenced the development of Koumba, adding depth and authenticity to the character.
