Restored ‘Star Wars’ Version to Return to Theaters in 2027 for 50th Anniversary

Get ready to experience a blast from the past because the very first Star Wars film is making a comeback to the big screen in 2027 to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Set to hit cinemas on February 17th, 2027, this special screening is part of the iconic franchise’s anniversary celebrations. The news was officially announced on the Star Wars website, so keep your eyes peeled for updates on when and where you can snag tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Disney, the parent company of Star Wars, revealed earlier this year that they would be re-releasing the original film, now titled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, in a “newly restored” version. This version is expected to be the same as the one shown at the BFI in London earlier this year. The 1997 special edition of the film, which differs from the original, has almost entirely replaced the original version, as George Lucas wanted to align it more closely with his “original vision” using digital technology.

In addition to the exciting news of the original Star Wars film returning to theaters, fans can also look forward to a new Star Wars film titled Star Wars: Starfighter, set to hit the screens just over three months after the re-release of the original film. This new installment in the Star Wars universe will star Ryan Gosling, with Shawn Levy directing and Jonathan Tropper penning the screenplay. Tropper, known for his work on projects like ‘The Adam Project’ and ‘This Is Where I Leave You’, is bringing fresh characters to the franchise, set roughly five years after Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

So mark your calendars for 2027 because it’s going to be an epic year for Star Wars fans with these exciting film releases on the horizon! Stay tuned for more updates as the release dates draw nearer.
