Police Investigate Lack of Brake Marks and Missing Road Signs and Barriers

A tragic accident in Hulu Terengganu has shaken the community after a sport utility vehicle (SUV) drove off the road and plunged into a ravine, resulting in the loss of a couple who were about to get married. The incident occurred along the Kuala Jeneris-Sungai Gawi-Aring (Bukit Kawah) road, leaving authorities puzzled due to the absence of brake marks at the scene. Hulu Terengganu Police Chief Superintendent Sharudin Abdul Wahab disclosed that the lack of brake marks indicates that the vehicle might have entered a closed-off section of the road where warning signs and road barriers were suspiciously missing. It is believed that human error played a significant role in the accident, as it seemed the driver was not paying full attention to the road. A disturbing detail revealed from the investigation was the absence of the SUV’s dashboard camera, although its mounting was found at the scene, suggesting it may have been dislodged during the crash. The recovery operation of the vehicle took nearly four hours and was complicated by inclement weather. The victims, identified as Hassan Shazali and Suzaimah Che Azis, were traveling to Gua Musang, Kelantan, from Hulu Terengganu when the tragedy occurred. Hassan, a father of five who had recently divorced, was preparing to marry Suzaimah, a single mother of three. The devastating accident has sparked concerns about road safety in landslide-prone areas and underlined the importance of maintaining warning signs and barriers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
