Prime Video taps Shōgun actor to adapt God of War for television

It’s an exciting time for fans of melee weapons in TV shows. From Shōgun to Stranger Things to The Witcher, swordplay and epic battles are making a big comeback on the small screen. With the success of Shōgun, it’s no surprise that Prime Video is tapping into that talent pool for their new God of War TV series.

According to Deadline, director Frederick E.O. Toye, known for his Emmy-winning work on Shōgun, will be directing the first two episodes of God of War. If you had any doubts about the quality of the show, Toye’s track record should put your mind at ease. This guy knows how to deliver.

For those who might not be familiar, the God of War video game series follows the story of Kratos, a fierce and bald warrior with a troubled past. Known as “the angriest man in video games,” Kratos has been battling enemies with his arsenal of weapons since the franchise began in 2005. From battleaxes to chains to spears, Kratos is not one to be messed with.

Personally, I can’t wait to see how the TV show brings Kratos’s fighting style to life. I mean, who could forget the hilariously epic chain-blade swinging from the first game? It had me in stitches on my friend’s old CRT TV.
