The Others Way 2025: A Triumph Review
Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory brought down the house at The Others Way 2025. A melting pot of experiences awaits you at Auckland’s The Others Way festival. This was my first time attending, and I can’t help but envy those in Auckland who get to experience this incredible event year after year. I found myself immersed in The Studio, catching Anthonie Tonnon’s impressive one-person show and vibing out to The Phoenix Foundation as they performed their 2005 album Pegasus. The nostalgia hit hard as I sang along to ‘Nest Egg’, feeling the energy of the crowd carry me back in time. TPF’s performance was a classy display of musical excellence that left me in awe. Georgia Knight also captured my heart with her ethereal performance, leaving me scouring Trade Me for autoharps ever since.
One of the best parts of the festival was running into friends and acquaintances between sets, each person on their own journey through the lineup. My night reached its peak with Sharon Van Etten’s mesmerizing performance that had us inching closer to the front for better sound. Her powerhouse vocals echoed through the crowd, creating a magical atmosphere on Karangahape road. It was a night to remember. – Claire Mabey
As a first-timer at The Others Way, I now understand the hype. With 42 acts spread across nine stages, the festival took over Karangahape Road, infusing the heart of Auckland’s underground scene with music. Attending solo was surprisingly common, and navigating the schedule on my own terms made the experience even more enjoyable. The lineup featured a mix of familiar faces and new discoveries, with Georgia Knight and Geneva AM standing out as highlights for me. Shona Lay’s emotional ballads at Pitt Street church left me spellbound, showcasing the raw talent present at the festival.
