Netflix Removes Casting Feature for Many TVs and Smart Devices

Netflix recently made a change that might impact your viewing experience. The streaming giant has removed the option to cast from your mobile device to most TVs and smart devices. While Netflix hasn’t explained the reason behind this decision, they are now encouraging users to utilize the built-in Netflix apps on their TVs and devices instead of casting.

Reports indicate that casting may still be possible on older versions of the Netflix app, and some devices like older Chromecast models may still show up under the Cast button option. However, in our own testing, we found that certain devices no longer appear for casting, like an LG TV that was previously compatible. Some users have mentioned losing this feature as early as mid-November.

According to Netflix’s help page, only users who are not on an ad-supported basic plan can still cast to older devices such as Chromecasts. This change comes at a time when many streaming services are increasing their prices, leading some viewers to rethink their subscriptions to save money.

So, if you’re used to casting Netflix shows from your phone to your TV, you may need to adjust your viewing habits. Make sure to check if your device is still supported for casting, and consider using the built-in Netflix app on your TV for a seamless viewing experience.
