Netflix Cancels Exploding Kittens and Snyder’s Gods

Netflix has decided not to renew three adult animation series for second seasons. These include the card game-to-cartoon adaptation “Exploding Kittens,” Zack Snyder’s violent “Twilight of the Gods,” and the animated reboot of the classic sitcom “Good Times.”

“Exploding Kittens” premiered in July 2024, telling the story of God and the Devil living in cat bodies and fighting it out in a suburban battleground. Despite featuring talents like Tom Ellis, Abraham Lim, Lucy Liu, and others in the voice cast, the series did not progress beyond early development work.

Zack Snyder, along with Jay Olivia and Eric Carrasco, created “Twilight of the Gods,” an epic animated series inspired by Norse mythology. The story follows a mortal king and a shield-maiden as they clash with gods. While the show had early development work done, it did not move forward to a second season.

“Good Times,” an animated reboot of a classic sitcom, featured voices from J.B. Smoove, Marsai Martin, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Jay Pharoah. Although it received decent ratings, it was not renewed for another season due to mixed critical reception.

However, Netflix Animation has other projects in the pipeline, including new seasons of “Tomb Raider,” “Devil May Cry,” “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” and more. Fans can also look forward to upcoming shows like “The One Piece,” “Alley Cats,” “Stranger Things: Tales from ’85,” and series based on properties like “Ghostbusters,” “Magic: The Gathering,” and “Minecraft.”
