Little Peacock Plumage Episode 304 Circle Round
Do you believe that “Beauty is skin deep”? Well, in today’s story, we’ll put that idea to the test – but instead of skin, we’re talking about feathers!
Our episode, “Little Peacock’s Plumage,” comes from the East Asian country of China. It’s a tale about a mystical Peacock Fairy who decides to take on an apprentice. The peacocks of the world are thrilled at the chance to learn her magic, but they must first compete in a challenge to stand out from the crowd.
While the other peacocks make extravagant preparations to impress the Peacock Fairy, the smallest and most picked-on Little Peacock doesn’t think he stands a chance. But when he comes across a farmer struggling in the heat, he offers his colorful feathers to help make a fan and provide relief. This act of kindness may just make Little Peacock stand out in a different way.
Our episode features voices from talented actors you may recognize from shows like “The Book of Boba Fett” and “Silicon Valley.” It was adapted for Circle Round by Rebecca Sheir, with music by Eric Shimelonis and artwork by Sabina Hahn.
If you want to get creative, you can make your own “T.P. Peacock”! All you need is an empty toilet paper roll, construction paper, and a bit of imagination. Feel free to share your creations with us by tagging #CircleRoundPodcast on social media.
Finally, in our musical spotlight, we explore the ancient instrument known as the guzheng, which originated in China over 2,500 years ago. This zither-like instrument has inspired similar instruments across Asian cultures, and its unique sound can be heard in our past episode, “Strong Mind and Kind Heart.”
So, next time you’re feeling a bit underappreciated like Little Peacock, remember that even the smallest act of kindness can make you truly stand out.
