HBO Max’s Latest Comic Movie Sequel Disappoints
If you’re looking for something new to watch on HBO Max, you might want to skip the latest addition that’s causing a buzz. The streaming platform is now offering Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the sequel to the popular 2014 movie, Kingsman: The Secret Service. While the original film was a hit, its follow-up may not live up to expectations.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle brings back familiar faces like Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, and Mark Strong, but it failed to capture the magic of its predecessor. Director Matthew Vaughn tried to up the ante with bigger stars and a larger budget, but the result was an overstuffed disappointment. Despite its $410 million worldwide box office gross, the film fell short in terms of critical success compared to the first movie.
Critics gave The Golden Circle a mediocre 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, significantly lower than The Secret Service’s “Certified Fresh” score. While audiences were a bit kinder with a 65% rating, it’s clear that the sequel didn’t quite hit the mark. If you’re a fan of the Kingsman series, you might want to give this one a watch, but manage your expectations.
In addition to Kingsman: The Golden Circle, HBO Max has added a variety of other films this November, including Dangerous Liaisons, House of 1000 Corpses, and Sucker Punch. If you’re in the mood for some holiday cheer, you can also check out Christmas classics like Elf and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
