Top 15 Films Vying for Golden Peacock at IFFI 2025
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has revealed the lineup for this year’s 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) International Competition featuring fifteen feature films. Among the selection are twelve international films and three Indian films competing for the prestigious Golden Peacock Award. This esteemed award comes with a generous cash prize of ₹40 lakh and will be judged by a panel of distinguished international jurors led by renowned Indian filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. The jury includes Graeme Clifford from Australia, Katharina Schüttler from Germany, Chandran Rutnam from Sri Lanka, and Remi Adefarasin from England.
The total prize money for various categories, such as Best Director, Best Actor (Male), Best Actor (Female), and the Special Jury Prize, amounts to ₹90 lakh. The International Competition boasts an impressive selection of films from around the globe, showcasing cinematic excellence. Notable works include Fatih Akin’s “Amrum,” a German-Turkish wartime coming-of-age drama, Simón Mesa Soto’s “A Poet (Un Poeta),” a Colombian tragicomedy that received Cannes’ Un Certain Regard Jury Prize, and Diane Kurys’ “C’est Si Bon (Moi qui t’aimais),” a French romance exploring the final years of Simone Signoret and Yves Montand.
Other contenders in the competition feature films from Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Nigeria, Japan, Vietnam, Iraq, and debuting an Arab feminist voice from Farida Baqi. India is represented by three films: Rajkumar Periasamy’s “Amaran,” Thalava KV’s “Sarkeet,” and Santosh Davakhar’s “Gondhal,” each offering unique perspectives and narratives. The diverse range of films in the competition underscores IFFI’s commitment to celebrating global storytelling that transcends boundaries of culture and language. IFFI 2025 reinforces its position as a premier cinematic festival offering voices and visions from around the world.
