Adventure Time Transformation: From a Kids Show to a Mature Series with Profanity

If you were a fan of Adventure Time, you’ll be excited to know that its spinoff sequel Fionna and Cake is now streaming on HBO Max. One of the big differences? They can drop some curse words now and then!

During a panel at New York Comic Con, showrunner Adam Muto shared, “Sometimes they let us say shit.” Actress Roz Ryan, who voices Cake, added, “I was shocked the first time Cake cussed. I’m telling you. I wasn’t mad, but I was shocked.”

But don’t worry, Fionna and Cake isn’t turning into South Park. They’re using the ability to cuss responsibly, according to Muto. “It’s not like we do everything as foul as possible, but it is like, if it naturally makes sense, then yeah. And Roz swears. A lot,” Muto joked. “I do. But they let me,” Ryan added with a laugh.
