Colin Farrell on Why He Dislikes Miami Vice Film
Colin Farrell recently shared his thoughts on his film “Miami Vice,” revealing that he wasn’t entirely pleased with the end product. The movie, directed by Michael Mann, was a modern take on the popular 1980s TV series and starred Farrell alongside Jamie Foxx. Despite receiving mixed reviews upon its release, “Miami Vice” has since gained a dedicated following. Farrell expressed his disappointment with the film, noting that it didn’t capture the off-screen camaraderie he shared with Foxx, likening it to the buddy cop film “Lethal Weapon.” He wished there had been more banter between the characters, highlighting that the film’s serious tone limited their on-screen chemistry.
In a previous interview, Farrell admitted that he believed “Miami Vice” prioritized style over substance and acknowledged his role in that decision. However, he mentioned that he had heard that the film has found favor among audiences in recent years.
Another project Farrell discussed was his involvement in the second season of “True Detective.” Despite facing harsh criticism upon its premiere in 2015, Farrell revealed that he cherished playing the character of Ray Velcoro. He described Velcoro as an intriguing mix of a tough guy with a sense of morality, making the role a rewarding experience for him. Although the season was met with a negative reception, Farrell praised series creator Nic Pizzolatto for his exceptional writing skills.
Reflecting on the disappointing feedback to “True Detective” season two, Farrell emphasized the importance of focusing on the process of creating art rather than fixating on external opinions. He acknowledged the challenges that come with engaging in projects that may not receive universal acclaim but emphasized the value of personal growth and artistic fulfillment.
Currently, Farrell’s latest film, “Ballad of a Small Player,” is available for streaming on Netflix. With a diverse range of roles under his belt, Farrell continues to explore complex characters and narratives, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
