Why Netflix Replaced Geralt’s Mentor Vesemir in The Witcher Season 4
Season 4 of “The Witcher” brings some fresh faces to the screen, including Laurence Fishburne as the altruistic vampire Regis. Fans will also notice new actors stepping into the roles of Geralt of Rivia and his mentor Vesemir, previously played by Henry Cavill and Kim Bodnia. The switch from Cavill to Liam Hemsworth as Geralt has been explained by showrunner Lauren Hissrich, but the change to Peter Mullan as Vesemir has been a bit more low-key.
Reportedly, Bodnia encountered scheduling conflicts due to delays in filming the movie “F1,” which stars Brad Pitt as a Formula 1 racecar driver. Despite Bodnia’s absence, Mullan stepped in to bring Vesemir to life. Although Mullan is a talented actor, the sudden change might be a bit unexpected for viewers, who are also adjusting to a new Geralt of Rivia. Bodnia’s absence is particularly felt since he voiced his character in the animated spin-off “The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.”
“The Witcher” season 4 introduces not only a new Vesemir but also alterations to his character’s story that may not sit well with fans familiar with Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels. While it’s understandable that the show wanted to continue after losing Cavill, some may find the recasts and changes disappointing. Despite these differences, “The Witcher” season 4 is now available for streaming on Netflix and ready for fans to indulge in.
