Tubi excited to stream Warner Bros. Looney Tunes shorts

Looney Tunes has finally found a welcoming home on Tubi where it can shine without any looming threats. The classic cartoon was not treated well under its previous Warner Bros. Discovery ownership. But now, after being pulled from HBO Max in March, Tubi has come to the rescue by securing 789 classic Looney Tunes shorts in August. These shorts, spanning from the 1930s to the early ’90s, were at risk of being locked away in a vault forever by Warner Bros. Discovery.

Samuel Harowitz, Tubi’s head of acquisitions, shared that Looney Tunes has been a huge success for the streamer. It’s one of the top 10 best-performing series, loved by viewers of all ages. Tubi is actively negotiating to ensure that it remains the home of Looney Tunes for the foreseeable future. While there haven’t been any discussions yet, Tubi is open to licensing future Looney Tunes content, like the potentially controversial “Coyote Vs. Acme.”

Tubi has also made classic animation a priority, recognizing the strong fanbase for these cartoons. In addition to Looney Tunes, Tubi offers classic shorts from other beloved shows like Tom And Jerry, The Flintstones, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The streamer organizes these shorts into “seasons,” presenting them in 30-minute episodes with ads only appearing between segments, preserving the linear TV cartoon viewing experience.

Furthermore, Tubi has taken care to use restored versions of many of the cartoons that were part of Warner Bros.’ Blu-ray and DVD collections. This attention to quality has been appreciated by fans and experts alike. Animation historian Jerry Beck, who worked on the physical releases, is thrilled that the classic cartoons are now accessible to a wider audience through Tubi. Removing them from HBO Max has allowed other networks to share these beloved classics for everyone to enjoy.
