Netflix reveals Jacob Elordi in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein Creatures

Netflix has just given us a first look at Jacob Elordi as the creature in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, and it’s a whole new take on the classic monster. Elordi’s version is more in line with Mary Shelley’s original novel than Boris Karloff’s famous portrayal in the 1930s film.

In this new interpretation, Elordi’s creature has pale skin, prominent scars, no eyebrows, and long, messy dark hair. The character’s appearance is meant to reflect the description in Shelley’s book of a creature with flowing black hair, a shriveled complexion, and watery eyes.

Director del Toro wanted to steer away from the traditional portrayal of the creature as a pieced-together accident victim. Instead, he focused on creating a visually stunning, almost ethereal version of the monster. The use of different flesh colors from various bodies gives the creature a pale and translucent appearance, resembling a newborn soul.

Del Toro and Elordi worked together to bring depth and emotion to the character. Elordi’s performance as the creature is described as soulful and intelligent, capturing the evolution and inner turmoil of the monster. Oscar Isaac, who plays Victor Frankenstein in the film, praised Elordi’s work and highlighted the parallelism between their characters as mirror images of each other.
