Catan Movies and TV Series in Development at Netflix

Netflix has made a big move by securing the global rights to create new projects based on the popular board game, “Catan.” The streaming service is planning movies and TV series, both scripted and unscripted, in live-action and animation formats. Darren Kyman from game publisher Asmodee, Pete Fenlon from Catan Studios, and Guido and Benjamin Teuber, the sons of the game’s inventor Klaus Teuber, will all be involved in producing these projects. Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment will also be on board.

The CEO of Asmodee, Thomas Koegler, expressed his excitement about the expansion of “Catan” to a larger audience through Netflix. He sees this as an opportunity for more people to discover the richness of the game’s universe, which has been a popular gateway into modern board gaming for many. Koegler also highlighted the significance of board games as a part of pop culture and everyday entertainment, emphasizing the enduring appeal of “Catan.”

Originally known as “The Settlers of Catan,” the game was created by Klaus Teuber in 1995. Since then, it has sold over 45 million copies worldwide and been translated into more than 40 languages. Players immerse themselves in the fictional island of Catan, where they gather resources, build settlements, and earn victory points to win the game. Thirty years after its initial release, “Catan” continues to captivate players with its strategic gameplay and engaging storyline.
