Is ‘No One Saw Us Leave’ on Netflix a True Story?
No One Saw Us Leave on Netflix has quickly become a fan favorite, climbing the ranks on the streaming platform’s TV charts. This gripping five-part limited series tells the story of a young wife and mother on a desperate mission to find her kidnapped children, who have been taken by her own husband, setting off an intense international pursuit.
Starring Tessa Ia (known for Narcos: Mexico), Emiliano Zurita (from Dance of the Forty One), and Juan Manuel Bernal (featured in Monarca), the show revolves around Valeria Goldberg (played by Ia) as she navigates a loveless arranged marriage with Leo Saltzman (played by Zurita), the son of influential businessman Samuel Saltzman (played by Bernal).
As Valeria’s marriage unravels, she finds solace in an affair with Leo’s brother-in-law, Carlos, which leads to a betrayal by the Saltzman family. In a cruel twist, they take away Valeria’s children and set out to tarnish her reputation within the affluent Mexican Jewish community they belong to. Ignoring Valeria, Leo secretly whisks away their two young children, Tamara and Isaac, to Europe as per his parents’ counsel.
When Valeria realizes her children are missing, she teams up with Elías, a former Mossad agent turned private investigator, to help track them down. But her powerful in-laws wield their influence to obstruct her at every turn, making the search for her children a globe-trotting adventure filled with suspense.
Inspired by a real-life event, No One Saw Us Leave is based on the kidnapping of Valeria Goldberg’s children, Tamara and Isaac, by their father, Leo Saltzman. The series is adapted from Tamara Trottner’s 2020 memoir, Nadie nos vio partir, recounting her childhood ordeal as a kidnapping victim in a well-to-do Jewish-Mexican community in 1968. Although the book is from Trottner’s perspective, the Netflix adaptation shifts the focus to her mother Valeria’s relentless quest to reunite with her children.
Tamara’s emotional journey and the family’s separation take viewers from Mexico to France, South Africa, and finally, Israel, highlighting the heartbreaking consequences of Leo’s vengeful actions. The end credits reveal a poignant detail that adds to the story’s emotional impact: Isaac and Tamara didn’t see their father Leo for two decades, while Valeria and Carlos remained committed to each other until Carlos’s passing in 1997.
If you’re a fan of thrillers with a human touch, No One Saw Us Leave is a must-watch on Netflix. Don’t miss this gripping tale of love, betrayal, and resilience as it unfolds across five riveting episodes.
