Apple Acquires US Formula 1 Streaming Rights for $750 Million
This weekend, get ready for the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas! Formula 1 made some big news this morning about where you’ll be able to catch all the action next year – Apple TV! In a whopping $750 million deal, Formula 1 will be leaving ESPN behind and revving up with Apple TV for the next five years.
You might have spotted Apple bigwig Tim Cook at some F1 races in the past, and this year, they even released F1: The Movie with Brad Pitt taking the lead as an experienced racer getting a second chance 30 years after a nasty crash. But now, Apple’s got the rights to broadcast the real deal – Formula 1!
With races happening almost every other week, Formula 1 is a series that’s growing fast, 24 races a year kind of fast. Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of F1, mentioned, “We have a shared vision to bring this amazing sport to our fans in the US and entice new fans through live broadcasts, engaging content, and a year-round approach to keep them hooked.”
Apple TV subscribers are in luck – you’ll be able to catch all the practice runs, qualifying sessions, sprint races, and grands prix with your subscription. Plus, select races and practices will be free to watch on the Apple TV app throughout the season.
But, what about F1TV? Don’t worry, F1 TV Premium isn’t going away in the US – you’ll still be able to access it through your Apple TV subscription, and it’ll even be free for subscribers! It’s unclear if US F1 fans will still be able to stream content while traveling like they can with the F1 TV app.
And for those wondering about ESPN – sorry folks, but Formula 1 races won’t be airing on ESPN anymore. But have no fear, Apple plans to add even more F1 content to Apple News, Apple Maps, Apple Music, and Apple Fitness+, including a widget for your iPhone home screen.
Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP for services, shared, “2026 marks a transformative new era for Formula 1, from new teams to new regulations and cars with the best drivers in the world, and we look forward to delivering premium and innovative fan-first coverage to our customers in a way that only Apple can.” Exciting times are ahead for Formula 1 fans in the US!
