TV Review: ‘And Just Like That…’ Disappoints with Missed Potential
And Just Like That… has wrapped up its divisive third season, leaving fans feeling a little underwhelmed. If you’re trying to avoid spoilers, tread carefully in those Manolos as we dig into what went down in the finale.
I have to admit, as a die-hard Sex and the City fan, I was thrilled to see Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda back on our screens in the first season of And Just Like That… in 2021. But as the seasons went on, it became clear that the show was struggling to recapture the magic of the original series. The characters felt off, the plotlines were bizarre, and it seemed like the writers were floundering.
In the third season, things did not improve. Carrie’s storyline felt particularly lackluster, with her relationship with Aiden taking center stage once again. The writers seemed to have lost their touch when it came to portraying these women in a realistic and relatable way.
While there were moments of fun and excitement throughout the season, including Charlotte’s disastrous birthday party and Carrie’s near-death experience in Virginia, the overall execution fell flat. The pacing was off, the plotlines felt disjointed, and by the end, I was left feeling more confused than satisfied.
But it wasn’t all bad. The production design and costumes continued to impress, and there were plenty of nods to the original series for die-hard fans to enjoy. And Just Like That… still had moments of brilliance, even if they were few and far between.
In the end, And Just Like That… may not have lived up to expectations, but it still had its moments. As we bid farewell to Carrie and the gang once again, we can’t help but feel a little disappointed at what could have been.
