Elizabeth Banks cast as Karen Read in upcoming limited series on Prime Video

Elizabeth Banks is taking on a new role in an upcoming limited series based on the Karen Read trial. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Banks will star as Karen Read and will also serve as an executive producer through her Brownstone Productions. The series is being developed by Prime Video in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television, with Justin Noble, the showrunner and writer of The Sex Lives of College Girls, on board.

The show is set to delve into themes such as society’s fascination with true crime, the appeal of conspiracy theories, and the growing lack of trust in our institutions. The story is based on the podcast Karen, produced by Law & Crime and Wondery.

Karen Read and her defense attorney, Alan Jackson, have signed a separate deal to work on a scripted version of her case with LBI Entertainment, the same company behind the 2023 film Killers of the Flower Moon.
