Why South Park is not available on HBO Max

If you were in the middle of a South Park marathon on HBO Max or eagerly awaiting Season 27, we’ve got some disappointing news for you – the show has bid farewell to the streaming service for good.

South Park, an iconic animated series known for its fast turnaround time that allows creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone to address current events almost in real-time, has been a fan favorite for years. Season 27 has been no exception, featuring everything from Superman’s Krypto to Homeland Security raids, and the usual antics from beloved characters like Randy Marsh.

For the past five years, HBO Max was the go-to spot for all 26 seasons of South Park. However, that has changed due to the expiration of HBO Max’s rights and a new $1.5 billion five-year deal signed by Parker and Stone with Paramount. This move makes Paramount Plus the official streaming destination for South Park, with all 26 seasons available as of July 24, 2025, along with new Season 27 episodes landing there the day after their premiere on Comedy Central.

The series’ future was uncertain for a while due to legal battles between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global over streaming rights. While the dust settled with Paramount Global’s acquisition by Skydance Media, Stone and Parker secured the deal with Paramount just in time for Season 27. This means South Park is set for at least another five years on Paramount Plus.

For fans who miss the show on HBO Max, the transition has caused some to consider alternative ways to watch, such as piracy or investing in Blu-rays. As the dust settles, South Park remains a cultural phenomenon that keeps viewers hooked with its satirical take on pop culture and current events.
