South Park Season 27 Episode 2: Controversial Release

If you caught the explosive premiere of South Park season 27, you probably noticed the brief hiatus before episode 2 hit our screens. In this latest installment, we see South Park Elementary counselor Mr. Mackey getting fired due to budget cuts and landing a job with ICE. The plot of episode 2 has earned it my spontaneous South Park burn of the week award.

South Park has never shied away from providing hot takes on world events, and season 27 is off to a fiery start. From a deepfaked version of President Trump in the nude to the tragic death of Superman’s sidekick Krypto, this show is not holding back. But the most impactful critique of US politics this week didn’t even make it into episode 2.

ICE has been a central focus in South Park season 27, with both episodes so far heavily featuring the controversial organization. Surprisingly, the White House tried to turn the tables on being the subject of the show’s ridicule by using it as a recruitment strategy. However, the response from fans and even the South Park creators themselves was less than favorable.

This clapback is a direct response to comments made by a White House spokesperson in a Variety interview following episode 1’s deepfake controversy. Despite the backlash, viewership numbers for season 27 episode 1 were impressive, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if episode 2 follows suit.

With scathing satirizations of Trump and the US government likely to continue, it’s worth keeping an eye out for new episodes and staying tuned to their social channels. This show is just getting started, and it seems like it’s only going to get more explosive from here.
