Where Was Netflix’s ‘Untamed’ Filmed? Real Locations Revealed

Netflix’s limited series Untamed, starring Eric Bana, premiered in July 2025 and follows the story of Kyle Turner, an agent with the National Park Service, investigating a mysterious death in Yosemite National Park. Bana, who plays Turner, was drawn to his character’s love for the outdoors, connecting deeply with the setting. In fact, Bana felt so inspired by filming in the wilderness that he couldn’t imagine going back to a studio set afterward.

While Untamed is set in Yosemite, the show was actually filmed in the rugged wilderness of British Columbia, not California. The filming crew faced challenges, but Bana’s passion for the outdoors helped them push through. Co-showrunner Elle Smith praised Bana’s commitment, mentioning how his willingness to engage with the landscape positively impacted the crew during the difficult shoot.

Lily Santiago, who plays Naya Vasquez in the series, shared that her character’s inexperience in the wild mirrored her own, coming from New York. Nature plays a pivotal role in the show, acting as another character, according to Santiago.

With Bana’s request for Turner to travel by horseback in the series and his desire for a bear encounter, it’s clear that the wilderness setting of Untamed played a significant role in shaping the story. Despite not having the bear encounter he hoped for, Bana’s dedication to his character and the natural surroundings shines through in his performance.
