Co-Creator of ‘The Last of Us’ Neil Druckmann Leaving HBO Series

Neil Druckmann, co-creator of “The Last of Us,” the popular HBO series based on the hit video game franchise, has announced his departure from the show. In a heartfelt statement, Druckmann explained that he has decided to step away from his creative role in the series to focus on his work at Naughty Dog and their upcoming game, “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.”

Having co-developed the original game in 2013 and its 2020 sequel, “The Last of Us Part II,” Druckmann expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work on the HBO series and collaborate with his fellow co-creator Craig Mazin. Mazin, known for his work on “Chernobyl,” will continue as the sole showrunner for Season 3 of the show.

The first two seasons of “The Last of Us” received critical acclaim and praise from viewers, with Season 1 achieving a 96 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While Season 2 was also successful, it experienced a slight dip in ratings and viewership compared to its predecessor.
