Stream ‘Gunsmoke’ to Achieve Nielsen Top 10 Ranking for the First Time

A classic TV show has made a surprising comeback in the streaming world. Gunsmoke, which originally aired from 1955 to 1975, landed a spot in the top 10 shows for the week of March 3-9. Even though it’s been almost 50 years since its last episode, Gunsmoke drew in an impressive 646 million minutes of viewing time on Paramount+ and Peacock.

With over 600 episodes available to stream, it’s not surprising that Gunsmoke has become a hit with viewers, especially those aged 65 and older. In fact, half of the show’s viewers fall into that age group. This isn’t the first time Gunsmoke has attracted viewers—it racked up more than 10 billion viewing minutes in 2024, showing its enduring popularity.

In other streaming news, Reacher continued its reign as the number one overall title, pulling in 1.41 billion viewing minutes. Meanwhile, Netflix’s Running Point saw a 30.5 percent increase in viewing time in its second week, reaching 1.36 billion minutes. These top contenders show that both classic shows and new releases can capture the attention of streaming audiences.
