Based on true events, Chief of War is a passion project for Momoa, who described it as his career “pinnacle” in an interview with the Associated Press in 2022. The series follows warrior Ka’iana, played by Momoa, as he seeks to unite the islands prior to Western colonization in the late 18th century.

Momoa co-created the series with Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, known for his work on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The show also features talented actors like Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, and Cliff Curtis in key roles.
