Are you a book lover in Yuma or Wray? If so, mark your calendar for Friday, January 17th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Head over to your local library to pick up your copy of Emily St. John Mandel’s novel, Station Eleven. Don’t forget to grab some free bookmarks and a tasty snack while you’re there. And if you can’t make it to the official launch, no need to worry! The books will be available during regular library hours. Plus, there will be audio, Spanish, and large print versions of the book for those who prefer them.

You’ll have just under two months to dive into the story before book discussions and writing workshops kick off. Exciting book discussions are scheduled for Saturday, March 8th at 4th and Main in Wray and Sunday, March 9th at The Orphanage in Yuma. These events will feature food and live performances related to the book, adding a touch of excitement.

If you’re feeling inspired, join the creative writing workshops happening on Saturday, March 15th at Wray Library in the morning, and at Yuma Library in the afternoon. This year’s Big Read theme “Where We Live” aims to spark creativity and community engagement.

The Big Read program is all about bringing communities together through shared reading experiences. By reading and discussing the same book, we hope to create meaningful conversations, celebrate local talent, explore diverse perspectives, and build stronger connections in our community. Everyone is invited to participate, though the books are more suitable for mature audiences, starting from high school age.

And for those who prefer screen time, there’s also a TV mini-series based on the book called “Station Eleven” by HBO Max. While we always believe the book is better, the show isn’t half bad either. This wonderful project is made possible thanks to funding from the National Endowment of the Arts, Arts Midwest, and the Gates Family Foundation. Prairie Sea Projects, along with Yuma and Wray public libraries, bring this enriching experience to the community.

For more details on this exciting project, feel free to reach out to Prairie Sea Projects at [email protected]. Keep an eye on your local library for updates on upcoming events. Let’s embark on this literary journey together and explore the world of Station Eleven.
