Mike Flanagan to Write DC Studios Clayface Live-Action Film
Writer and director Mike Flanagan has some exciting news for DC fans. He’s set to write a screenplay for a Clayface live-action body-horror movie. If you’re not too familiar with Clayface, he’s been a lesser-known Batman villain in the comics. Flanagan is known for his work on Netflix thrillers like The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and Midnight Mass, as well as the adaptation of Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep.
Back in 2021, Flanagan mentioned on Twitter that he had a strong desire to pitch a Clayface movie to DC Comics. Despite facing some roadblocks, including changes in producer leadership and new creative directions for DC Studios, Flanagan finally got the green light for the project. Although he won’t direct this film due to prior commitments, fans are eager to see his take on the character.
It’s unclear which DC universe this movie will be a part of, whether it’s tied to Matt Reeves’ Batman universe, James Gunn’s new DCU universe, or its own unique Elseworlds universe. Initially, there were rumors of Clayface appearing in the sequel to Batman and having his standalone project, but now production is slated to kick off in early 2025.
Keep an eye out for updates on the release date for the Clayface movie. This is certainly an intriguing project that fans of DC Comics and Mike Flanagan’s work won’t want to miss.
