Rare White Peacock Killed in California Mountain Lion Attack
A beloved rare white peacock named Albert was tragically killed in a mountain lion attack in the Boulder Creek community in California. The community, who had adopted Albert as their unofficial mascot, was devastated by the loss.
Laurie and Dan Henning, local ceramic artists, expressed their shock, saying, “We were just stunned, you know, it seemed like he was always going to be here.”
According to reports from the San Lorenzo Valley Post, Albert, who resided in the Santa Cruz Mountains, fell victim to a puma. Resident Kevin Foster shared that the community had a special bond with Albert, calling him their own.
Albert was a fixture in Boulder Creek for decades and had even survived a fire in 2020. During the CZU complex fire, Albert was seen flying through smoke after a lightning strike. Boulder Creek Fire Chief Mark Bingham assured concerned citizens at the time that Albert was doing well, saying, “He looks like someone took him to a spa…He always seems to make it, and always seems to thrive.”
Despite the heartbreaking loss, Albert’s legacy lives on in the community. Laurie Henning plans to create a shrine in his memory, showcasing the impact he had on their town. The white peacock touched the lives of many, inspiring unity and resilience, especially after surviving the fire.
Albert’s story of survival and connection with the people of Boulder Creek will always be remembered and cherished.
