2 displaced in Virginia Beach due to grease fire
A grease fire at a townhome in Virginia Beach left two adults displaced, the Virginia Beach Fire Department reported. The incident occurred in the 570 block of Chancery Lane on Sunday evening, with heavy smoke coming from the two-story townhome when crews arrived at 5:31 p.m. Thankfully, the fire was under control by 5:35 p.m. and fully extinguished by 5:40 p.m.
The fire department determined that the cause of the fire was accidental, starting as a grease fire that spread into the cabinets and ceiling. While two adult males were displaced, one of them received treatment for smoke inhalation at the scene. Luckily, there were no other injuries to civilians, firefighters, or pets.
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s important to remember to “stand by your pan” while cooking. Kitchen fires and unattended cooking are leading causes of home fires and injuries, especially during the holiday season. Stay safe and vigilant in the kitchen to prevent accidents like this one.
