However, Prime Video later scaled back its investments in the region and disbanded its original production team.
Set in the near-future Indonesia of 2027, the plot of "The Siege at Thorn High" revolves around Edwin, a young substitute teacher at a school for troubled youth. As the school transforms into a battleground, Edwin must navigate his own inner struggles while fighting for survival in the midst of chaos.
The movie features a talented cast including Morgan Oey, Omara Esteghlal, and Hana Malasan in leading roles, with Fatih Unru, Satine Zaneta, Dewa Dayana, Florian Rutters, Faris Fadjar Munggaran, Sandy Pradana, and Farandika rounding out the ensemble.
Amazon MGM Studios described the film’s world as a reflection of Indonesian society on the brink of anarchy, fueled by discrimination and racial tensions. Director Joko Anwar expressed his excitement about collaborating with Amazon MGM Studios on this project, emphasizing the timely and provocative nature of the film’s themes, which challenge viewers to reconsider notions of justice and compassion amidst gripping action and suspense.
James Farrel, Vice President of International Originals at Amazon MGM Studios, highlighted the significance of this partnership as the first time the studio has teamed up with a local production company for a theatrical release in Southeast Asia. The collaboration with Joko Anwar and Come and See Pictures promises to bring a unique cinematic vision to Indonesian audiences, marking a milestone for Amazon MGM Studios in the region.
"The Siege at Thorn High" promises to deliver a thought-provoking and thrilling cinematic experience, tackling relevant social issues while offering audiences an immersive and impactful narrative. With a talented team behind the camera and in front of it, the film is poised to make a significant impact upon its release in 2025.
